Updated Position on Swansea Schools Return to Face to Face Learning

Updated Position on Swansea Schools Return to Face to Face Learning

All Swansea schools will aim to return to face to face learning from Monday 11 January instead of 6 January. There will be a delay to face to face learning to allow time to consider updated information, expected next week, about Covid-19, including the new variant. All schools will provide online learning from Wednesday 6 January and each school will provide onsite childcare for vulnerable children if needed and critical workers’ children if essential from Wednesday 6 January. The position will be reviewed on 6 January.
Thank you

A message from Mrs Phillips

Christmas letter

Good Morning Parents/Carers and Children,
Who would ever have thought that we would be celebrating Christmas this year as we have in Sketty Primary! It has been a tough term, but our children and staff have risen to the challenge and through all the social distancing and the sea of hand sanitiser, we have achieved wonderful things! It is my pleasure to announce we have retained our Platinum Eco award!
A big thankyou to all the children and staff for this as some of the work needed was completed over lockdown through online learning.
Almost all classes have recorded a little treat for you to see we have had some Christmas spirit in school. All videos were recorded within the children’s bubbles and I am sure you will enjoy the final edits! We must forgive year 2 and Nursery for not having anything filmed. Individual and class isolations, staff absence and the move to online learning has scuppered their plans. I am told that they will record something in the New Year!
A final farewell to the wonderful Mrs De Kayne who leaves us on Friday to embark on adventures new! We shall miss you but wish you all the love and happiness on your retirement.
Finally, a message to you all from me. Thank you so much for your support, patience, very kind words and sense of humour as we continue to wade through the pandemic that rages on around us. The New Year will I am sure bring its own challenges. However, I know our families, children, staff and governors have a wonderful mantra to survive this unprecedented time -we are stronger together! We work as one to ensure our children get the best, safest school experience we can possibly deliver! Whatever 2021 brings we are ready!
So until we meet again in the New Year have a wonderful Christmas, please keep safe, follow the rules and this year, eating too much chocolate, is allowed.
Thank you again for your continued support.
With much love,
Nadolig Llawen! Merry Christmas!

PTA WINTER UPDATE – DECEMBER 2020

The PTA held it’s AGM by zoom on the 3rd November.  In the meeting several longstanding members stood down.  Thank you to them for their support over the years.  Thank you also to the new faces that joined us!

For 20/21 your PTA consists of:

Co-Chairs – Heather Parkinson & Samantha Arthur, Vice Chairs – Helen Saunders & Tamsin Morris,  Treasurer – Joanne Jones & Tom Bassett, Secretary – Emma Laycock. Committee Members: Wendy Davies, Charlotte Gibson, Karen Richardson, Katie Cooze, Heath Brett, Kirsty Richards and Linda Evans.

The above positions within the PTA are nominated roles. We also have many active volunteers who assist the PTA in lots of wonderful ways such Laura Bishop Reynolds who helps us with our design/marketing.    We warmly welcome new people, with new ideas/skills and bags of enthusiasm, so don’t just think about it, please get in touch. We’d love to have you and the school really does require a lot of help with raising funds in such challenging times.

At the AGM the PTA reflected on the events and initiatives held in the previous academic year.  Rags 2 Riches, Halloween Disco, Nearly New sale, Christmas Fayre, Christmas cards, Pancake Stall, Quiz, Cake Stalls, Easy Fundraising.  Together with the Co-op grant for technology the PTA raised £13,700!  That’s an amazing achievement!  Thank you to every one of you that helped the PTA achieve this.

The PTA’s ethos is to assist the school to enhance the learning experience of every child at the school. Requests for funding from the PTA come direct from teachers and reasons must be given for why such funding is needed.  It is then voted on at PTA meetings.  So far this year the PTA has helped fund Sumdog for another year, this is an online spelling and maths programme which the juniors love, outdoor PE equipment for year 2, 28 computers for key stage 2, £50 for every class for Christmas crafting and the year 6 leavers hoodies.  The main aim for 2021 is to continue to raise funds for items for all years but also to assist the school in funding some much needed new play equipment for the junior yard.

As well as the PTA committee all classes have a PTA class representative.  They help pass on information about the PTA and PTA events via each classes Facebook page (and when they return) help to manage their classes Friday bake sales. The current PTA class reps are:

Nursery AM – Katie Cooze Nursery PM – Tamsin Morris

Reception  KP/CC – Ellie Jones/Kirsty Richards Reception  KE/SM– Sam Arthur/Linda Evans Y1 SDK – Hannah ChriswickY1 LO/ER – Janine Walters

Please join your classes FB page, the PTA Sketty Primary School FB page and SPS Used Uniform FB Sale page for some preloved school uniform bargains!  In the run up to Christmas we are also encouraging people to sell quality preloved toys on the uniform page only.  Please ensure you make at least a £1 donation to the PTA and stay safe when buying/selling.

Halloween like most things in 2020 was a bit different this year.  Unable to have a F2F disco, with the help of two year 6 mums (DJ Viki La Metz & Sali Earls) we held our first PTA zoom disco.  It will never replace the real deal but we hope it was a bit of fun for the children.  This event raised £150.

If you bought them, you should also have received your child’s Christmas cards and mugs.  Thank you again for your support with this initiative.  It raised a whopping £1300 this year!  Please remember you can continue to support the PTA when shopping online via ‘easyfundraising’. It won’t cost you a penny extra via one of their 3,241 shops /sites.  It’s like cashback for the PTA.  Next time you shop online go via www.easyfundraising.org.uk and search for Sketty Parent Teacher Association and JOIN then SHOP it’s as easy as that!  Please also have a sort over Xmas ready for another Rags2Riches on 10th MARCH 2021!

And finally……the PTA elves have been busy helping Santa (financially & logistically!) provide a selection box for every child.  We hope they enjoy this.  Thank you for your support in 2020! We wish you a safe and happy Christmas.
